Chicago Bulls: The GarPax era is over, and the future is now
#1: Head Coach Jim Boylen is likely out too
When a team brings in a new leader in the front office, it almost always follows that the new hire will want to bring in their own head coach. It’s a logical move and one that must happen sooner rather than later for the Bulls.
Bulls Head Coach Jim Boylen is widely considered the worst coach in the NBA, and it became even clearer this season that Bulls players don’t like his coaching style. There have been multiple instances of Bulls players publicly disagreeing with their coach.
This all may be a little more excusable if Boylen ever succeeded or led his players to some sort of improvement. Instead, this team seems to have regressed in certain areas where Boylen has imposed his style. For example, Boylen’s outdated philosophy on aggressive defense.
The Bulls will first focus on bringing in the right person to focus on the team’s future direction as an organization. That’s what’s most important now, and the Bulls are long overdue for an organizational culture change.
But when the dust settles from this front office hiring process, it would be a huge red flag if Boylen remained as coach of the Bulls. This may signal that Paxson still has enough input to sway decision-making within the organization, as Boylen was his choice for coach.
A fresh start is needed for the players and organization if this new era of Bulls basketball is going to be a success. That only happens if Boylen is removed as head coach. Let’s hope this is the next news to break after the Bulls find a new executive.
