Chicago Bears NFL Draft: 5 trades worth making to move up
By Ryan Heckman
5. Trade into early 2nd for S Grant Delpit
Since the Bears lost Adrian Amos to free agency a year ago, and now saw Ha Ha Clinton-Dix leave town, they have been searching for a long-term option opposite Eddie Jackson.
Now, Grant Delpit is more of a free safety. I understand that. But, he showed a lot of potential as someone who could also flourish in the box, with the right defensive front.
Luckily for him, the Bears have a lethal defensive front. Delpit played in the slot often at LSU as well as playing back at the free safety position.
Trade Example: Chicago sends picks no. 43 and 163 this year to Carolina for picks no. 38 and 185.
Delpit stands a strong 6-foot-2 and plays aggressively, which again makes him a tantalizing prospect to pair up with Jackson in Chicago.
2018 was definitely a better overall year for Delpit, but in the last two seasons combined he has totaled: 139 tackles including 14.0 for a loss, 7.0 sacks, 16 passes defended and seven interceptions.
The Bears have a lot of fine names at safety right now, including Deon Bush, Jordan Lucas and DeAndre Houston-Carson, but Delpit would give them a ridiculous one-two punch with Jackson. This would be a dream scenario for the Bears defense.
