Chicago Bears NFL Draft: 5 trades worth making to move up
By Ryan Heckman
Trade into 3rd for TE Adam Trautman
Another tight end? Really?
Absolutely. The Bears are treating their tight end issue like the kicking situation last year, and it just might work — collectively, that is.
One of the players many Bears fans are split on is Dayton tight end Adam Trautman. It does make sense, too. The last time the Bears took a shot on a small school tight end named Adam, it didn’t exactly work out well.
Trade Example: Bears send pick no. 164 this year, and a future third-round pick, to the Houston Texans for pick no. 90.
But, Trautman’s tape shows exactly what kind of guy the Bears would be getting. The one thing that jumps out to me is his ability to pull down contested catches. He’s a dog when it comes to going up and snatching difficult passes. It’s flat-out mesmerizing to watch, especially because he doesn’t exactly look like he’d be that kind of player.
Trautman is 6-foot-5, he doesn’t have elite speed, but when you add in his near-35-inch vertical jump to his size, that’s something to get excited about. It’s especially exciting when you see how phenomenal his hands are.
Look, the Bears need a guy like Trautman. They need a young, dependable tight end who can make difficult catches and present defenses with a true red zone threat. That’s him in a nutshell.
