Chicago Bears NFL Draft: Don’t ignore these late-round prospects
By Ryan Heckman
Safety Myles Dorn, North Carolina
How about adding a former teammate of Mitchell Trubisky late in the draft? The Bears could actually look at a couple of North Carolina prospects, including offensive tackle Charlie Heck. But, for now, I’m focused on safety Myles Dorn.

With Eddie Jackson functioning best at the free safety position, the Bears need someone to step into the strong safety spot. Luckily, Dorn plays better in the box than he does in Jackson’s position.
Dorn doesn’t have elite speed at the safety position, which is one of the main reasons why he projects best as a box safety. He should live in and around the box, where he has a nose for breaking down plays before they happen.
He is a downhill runner, attacking the ball when he commits. He closes well, so long as it’s not from behind. Dorn finishes tackles well and rarely misses them. He wraps up like a pro.
His senior season with the Tar Heels saw Dorn finish with career highs in tackles (83), tackles for loss (4.5) as well as passes defended with six. He also ended the year with two picks.
Right now, the Bears have re-signed Deon Bush and brought in former Chiefs safety Jordan Lucas. With Dorn added to the mix, it’s still anyone’s job.
