Mock Draft 5 — The Future

Finally, a mock where the Bears take a quarterback. I know, after trading for Nick Foles it might not be at the top of everyone’s list. However, there is a point to be made about whether or not Pace is on the hot seat. If he doesn’t get this roster to the playoffs, and hopefully beyond the first round, he could be gone.

The quarterback situation has not been solidified in a long time. As far as finding a franchise quarterback which fits this system, Pace has yet to get his guy. Bringing in Foles was a smart and necessary move, but drafting and keeping a third quarterback would provide the most depth and competition this team has had at the position in recent memory.

Round 2, pick 43: CB Trevon Diggs, Alabama

Round 2, pick 50: QB Jalen Hurts, Oklahoma

Round 5, pick 163: TE Josiah Deguara, Cincinnati

Round 6, pick 196: OT Terence Steele, Texas Tech

Round 6, pick 200: S Tanner Muse, Clemson

Round 7, pick 226: WR Austin Mack, Ohio State

Round 7, pick 233: EDGE Carter Coughlin, Minnesota

In this instance, the Bears get Diggs once again and can plug him in at CB2 right away. But then, they go grab Jalen Hurts.

This kid could very well be the future. He’s improved immensely over the last couple of months and had a phenomenal Combine performance. With this many weapons around him and in a system like Nagy’s, Hurts could be special.

Speaking of Combine standouts, Cincinnati’s Josiah Deguara would be a sensational value pick in the fifth round. Adding a total package at tight end would be a great move, and Deguara is just that. He can run solid routes and catch the football while also providing excellent blocking.

Overall, the Bears add more depth across several positions here, including one of my favorite late-round pass rushers, Carter Coughlin out of Minnesota.
