Deatrick Nichols – CB

The Chicago Bears have an elite defense. With players like Akiem Hicks, Khalil Mack, Eddie Jackson, and Kyle Fuller amongst others, this is a defense that can win a Super Bowl. Now, imagine if they added some upgrades. Deatrick Nichols would be a solid addition to the cornerback position for the Bears in 2020. He might not be someone who starts but having him as a backup on the roster might be something to consider for the Bears.

Nichols spent a season with the Arizona Cardinals before they let him go. He went to the XFL where he was able to find his game. He led the entire XFL with three interceptions in 2020. One thing that a Bears secondary might need is a guy who has the ability to make interceptions. Fuller. and Jackson is obviously capable too but having more options isn’t a bad thing, especially with the front seven that the Bears are going to have to pressure the opposing quarterback this year.

If the Bears are able to turn their takeaway numbers back in the right direction in 2020, they could be even better than they were in 2019. They peaked in 2018 so if they want to get back to that, the takeaways need to come back and finding a guy like Nichols could be a diamond in the rough.
