James Butler

The Chicago Bears might need some help at the running back position. They have David Montgomery who still has the jury out on him likely to be the starting back on Opening Day. There is also Tarik Cohen who they use for different types of plays. They might be looking to add a third back to the mix which would really be a smart idea.

Houston Roughnecks leading rusher James Butler might be a smart addition for the Bears. It would be extra special for him as a local boy to have a chance with the Bears. He played football in the suburbs of Chicago before making it onto the University of Nevada-Reno roster in college. He then played on the Oakland Raiders practice squad before his release there. Now, he led an XFL team in rushing as he looks to get a chance in the NFL.

Butler had 221 total yards in 2019’s five games with four touchdowns. If the Bears are looking for a third guy on the depth chart to potentially get some goal-line carries, he might be their guys. Cohen and Montgomery each bring different skill-sets but we don’t exactly know how impactful they will be long term on a team like the Bears. Looking at the XFL for a running back might be a good idea if they don’t want to draft one.
