Chicago Blackhawks: 3 summer 2019 moves that should get Bowman fired
Olli Maatta for Dominik Kahun
So in 2019, Stan and the Blackhawks traded a good defenseman for a lesser forward. They also traded a good forward for a lesser defenseman when they sent Dominik Kahun to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Olli Maatta. It makes it even worse when you remember that the Hawks also gave Pittsburgh a 5th round pick in the deal. It is another bad trade in a long list of them for Stan.
You can look at it as the Blackhawks traded Dominik Kahun and Henri Jokiharju for Olli Maatta and Alexander Nylander. They would have been a better hockey team with the former pair opposed to the latter. It just really makes you wonder what Stan was thinking when he made those trades. It is no good at all when you look back.
Maatta has four goals and 13 assists for 17 points in 65 games played this year. He was never really an offensive stud but he isn’t all that good in his own end either. He isn’t really an awful hockey player by any means but he really doesn’t fit what the Blackhawks try to do with their attack. He isn’t the best skater in the world either which hinders him in this system. Kahun, on the other hand, has 12 goals and 19 assists for 31 points in 56 games played.
Kahun would have looked really nice in the place of Nylander. This trade is especially bad because of the fact that they also made the Jokiharju trade. When you combine the two trades together, it is not a good look for Stan Bowman at all.
