Alexander Nylander for Henri Jokiharju

The Chicago Blackhawks are a mess in their own zone. They don’t have enough good defensemen to keep them competitive enough to be a playoff team. They have some very young and promising guys for the future but they traded a key piece to their blueline away. Stan traded Henri Jokiharju to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Alexander Nylander. That trade was a disaster the second he made it and it has only just begun to look worse as time goes on.

Alex Nylander has 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 points in 65 games while Jokiharju has four goals and 11 assists for 16 points. Nylander has ten more points but as a forward, he should have more points. That isn’t the Blackhawks’ biggest issue, however. They need defenders who belong at the NHL level. Jokiharju is that and they gave him away for a bottom-six forward.

This trade will look even worse if the Blackhawks get rid of Nylander for a lesser return. It is something that is unforgivable as far as a trade. It was a terrible trade by Stan and one that is going to be hard to recover from. It is going to make it painful to watch him really develop in Buffalo.
