Chicago Bears News: 3 thoughts on Jimmy Graham signing
By Ryan Heckman
3. Majority of fans impatient with Pace
Obviously, a big part of what the Bears do in free agency hinges on Tom Brady and the quarterback dominoes yet to fall. But, to go all of Day 1 only to finally make Graham the Bears’ first move seems ludicrous.
The deal was an overpay, of course, and puts Chicago in a worse position financially going forward. Tight end is still a need, and so are a couple of other areas. I just see no reason for the Bears to have made this signing, when the money could have gone to either a quickly-depleting offensive guard market or a guy like Hooper or Ebron.
Looking around social media following the announcement of Graham’s deal with the Bears, I had a hard time finding people who could get themselves excited about it. I was one of those who was not thrilled, and you likely are too.
Pace may very well be in a make-or-break offseason with the Bears, and this is not a great start to free agency. He’s got his work cut out for him in the near future if he is to secure the faith of the fan base. Chicago’s roster is, for the most part, set up to win now. Is Pace going to figure things out, or continue to waste money?
