The Fallout

The fallout could go a few different ways for both the Chicago Bears and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Trading for Nick Foles would be a semi-hefty financial investment for Chicago because of the contract that the Jaguars gave him.

He would need to play well enough to get the Bears into the playoffs for it to not be a complete disaster of a trade. If he was subpar or injured again, it would be yet another bad quarterback decision for Ryan Pace in a long list of them.

It would be a good trade if Foles played well enough to support the defense. We all know about the defense loaded with good players like Khalil Mack, Eddie Jackson, Akiem Hicks, and Kyle Fuller but it is all for naught if they can’t score points. If Foles came in and was a good enough game manager, this team could surprise a lot of people. He is already proven in the league so if he can repeat some of that, it would be worth the trade.

For Jacksonville, the fallout really can’t be too negative. We pretty much know what to expect from Gardner Minshew. It is hard to see Nick Foles playing much better or much worse than Minshew so if they can gain an asset and lose Foles’ contract, so be it. It will definitely be interesting to see if they are able to trade him and who it will be who takes him if they are.

As for the Bears again, it is very important that they get good play from their quarterback in 2020. If they don’t, it will likely be yet another year wasting this very good group of players on defense. The window is only going to be open for so long so they might as well go for it now.
