The Chicago Bears have had a long horrible history when it comes to the man under center and it shouldn’t have to be that way.

The Chicago Bears have a lot of intrigue around them when it comes to next week’s free agency period. They had Mitchell Trubisky not be very good in 2019 and that cost them a playoff spot. They were 8-8, yet people talk about them like they were 4-12. If they had above-average play under center, they in all likelihood would have been in the playoffs this past season.

After watching the college football National Championship between Clemson and LSU, it made it even more apparent that they do not have to settle for bad quarterback play. Trevor Lawrence and Joe Burrow are awesome. They are going to be high picks in their draft years so the Bears might need to trade up to get a guy like that but there are also guys like Jalen Hurts and Jake Fromm that might be available when they draft.

There are also some options in the NFL window. They could make a trade for a guy like Andy Dalton or Nick Foles if that is the route they wanted to go. There are also some free agents like Marcus Mariota, Case Keenum, or Jameis Winston that they can bring in. None of these guys are even guaranteed to pan out but it is horrible to think about them not at least trying to improve the position. This team has settled for subpar play at the most important position in all of the sports for so long and it is ridiculous.

They should be bringing in two guys an offseason until they find the right one. This team has a great defense that was handicapped by an offense that couldn’t score points. Was Trubisky the only problem in 2019? Absolutely not but without good quarterback play, none of those other issues are even worth fixing. As long as this defense is this good with an offense that can’t score points, it will be a missed opportunity for the organization.
