4. Quarterback Case Keenum

The Bears are going to add a quarterback or two over the upcoming weeks. That is for certain. But, with as many rumors and hunches there are floating around, I have a hard time believing anyone knows what Pace’s plan is.

On one hand, he and Matt Nagy like Mitchell Trubisky, but on the other, they know he’s on a short leash.

Case Keenum has been a name thrown around by folks guessing at what the Bears are going to do, and I’m not quite sure I like it. The only time we’ve ever seen him relevant was a couple of years back, during one single season with the Minnesota Vikings. Outside of the “Minneapolis Miracle” season, Keenum has been an underwhelming quarterback.

Since his career began in 2012, Keenum has spent time with five different teams. Only once has he thrown for more than 20 touchdowns in a single season and, you guessed it, that was in 2017 when he tossed 22 of them for the Vikings.

Otherwise, when you look at his career as a whole, it’s far from impressive. 75 touchdowns and 47 interceptions in 67 career games — that’s it. Yet, I think people continue to look back on that season with the Vikings as what he’s capable of doing with the Bears.

Is Keenum a great person, leader and a veteran whom would help the locker room? Sure. But, so is Chase Daniel, and he didn’t add much value to the quarterback room in terms of pushing Trubisky.

The Bears need someone who will push Trubisky, not just a once-notable name who has been an otherwise mediocre quarterback.
