Chicago Bears: Overrated free agents to stay away from
By Ryan Heckman
2. Linebacker Alec Ogletree
The Bears have some decisions to make on linebackers in the coming days. Currently, they have three impending free agents at inside linebacker: Nick Kwiatkoski, Danny Trevathan and Kevin Pierre-Louis.
On the other side, they have to add some depth opposite Khalil Mack. The Bears will really need to add a few at outside linebacker if they cut ties with Leonard Floyd, which some fans want to see happen.
Regardless of what they do with their own linebackers, though, Pace cannot afford to go after a guy like Alec Ogletree. When you get cut from the New York Giants, who are currently hurting big time on defense, you know your career is headed in a downward spiral.
Ogletree may have once been a solid backer, but he has considerably lost a few steps. He is awful on blitzes and in coverage, and his inability to close is noticeable. There is no telling what his asking price will be just yet, but based on his name and status as a former first-round pick alone, he might be overpriced.
No matter what Pace does with his own guys, signing Ogletree cannot and should not be in the cards.
