2. Wide Receiver

Already, the Bears have moved on from one of their own wide receivers by allowing Taylor Gabriel a head start on free agency. Chicago saved some cash with the move, and it was expected by most.

More from Da Windy City

They are left with Allen Robinson and Anthony Miller as the two starters, with Riley Ridley and Javon Wims waiting in the wing for their chance to shine. Of course, there is Patterson who functions more as an all-around weapon and, again, will be used out of the back field more in 2020.

So, when looking at a replacement for Gabriel, the Bears would be much wiser to look towards the draft. The class of wideouts is as deep as any class we’ve seen in recent history. It is deep enough where Pace will see some guys with Round 1 grades drop all the way to the back of the second.

That means, the Bears could easily get a high quality receiver later on by trading for and acquiring a third rounder, or using their impending compensatory pick in the fourth. This is truly a class where you’re going to see plenty of talent fall, and the Bears would be smart by finding their final receiver in this draft class.

Free agents who might fit include guys like Travis Benjamin or Robby Anderson, but a rookie would be a whole lot cheaper. Not to mention, Benjamin has had issues with drops and Anderson’s character is in question.

It’s the draft or bust when it comes to receiver. Pace should skip free agency altogether when assessing the receiver room.
