2. How quickly does Ha Ha Clinton-Dix make a decision?

To be perfectly honest, I would have no problem with Ha Ha Clinton-Dix coming back. But, the question is, could he play in the box? I have a hard time believing he could. That would mean Eddie Jackson stays at strong safety instead of playing the more natural free safety spot for him.

Clinton-Dix didn’t jump off the tape or stat sheet last year, but he was more than serviceable. I don’t think the Bears defense loses by re-signing him. But, most assumed that he was in Chicago on a 1-year rental and would get paid elsewhere in 2020. Will that happen?

If Clinton-Dix is off the table, Chicago very well could try and re-sign Deon Bush to come in and play the box safety. Bush has improved quite a bit since his rookie season and become one of the better backup safeties in football. Most believe he could go get a starting job somewhere during this offseason — will it be in Chicago? Bush would be cheaper than Clinton-Dix, more than likely. That’s a positive.

If neither Bears safety ends up being the option for Pace, I would seriously consider making a run at Anthony Harris, a free agent from the Minnesota Vikings. Either Harris or Tony Jefferson would be fantastic. But, both Harris and Jefferson would be costly. If the Bears signed either, they’d likely have one more big contract in them before they had to tone down the spending.

The plus side to netting a safety like Harris is that Pace would have his starting strong safety, no longer having to worry about that position high in the draft. Speaking of which,
