The Chicago Blackhawks have a lot of talented forwards. Alex DeBrincat is one of them. Just because his goal numbers are down doesn’t take away the fact that he is one of the best players in the organization. He has already shown that he has the ability to be one of the best goal scorers in the entire National Hockey League. Not a lot of players had more goals during the 2018-19 season than DeBrincat. His 41 goals were second on the team that year. They were also a big climb from the already impressive 28 that he had his rookie year.
A lot of people wondered what he would be able to do building on that 41 goal season. Instead, he has struggled to put the puck in the net this year. It has really impacted the way the Blackhawks have attacked this year. It looked like a line with Toews and Kane would lead the way while DeBrincat and Strome would lead the depth scoring. It just hasn’t happened that way.
He has 16 goals and 24 assists for 40 points in 65 games. The fact that he might get to 20 goals in a “down year” tells you that he can be so much better. That is why he needs to have a strong finish. The most important thing for pure goal scorers is confidence. They need to score goals to feel good about their game. Alex DeBrincat has already proven he can score 30 by accident and then potentially get to 40. If he has a strong finish to 2019-20, it would be good for him personally and the Blackhawks as a team. They are probably a playoff team if DeBrincat has last year’s goal total.
