If you’re looking for an immediate replacement for Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and don’t want to pay up in free agency, look no further than Antoine Winfield Jr. out of Minnesota. This kid can do it all as a safety.

The one thing he’ll get knocked for is is less-than-ideal size, but he plays much bigger. Winfield can step up in the box, support the run and get after the quarterback if need be. He’s a decent athlete, but proved he had much better speed than anyone thought when he ran the 40 at 4.45 seconds.

Winfield is a smart player. He reads quarterbacks very well and goes straight after the ball when he commits. Last year, he had a whopping seven interceptions for the Gophers. To prove his versatility, Winfield also had 3.5 tackles for loss, including 3.0 sacks. He also forced a pair of fumbles.

Of course, football is in his blood. With a father like Antoine Winfield Sr., he grew up learning the game from his dad. He knows football better than most his age.

Medicals will be important going forward, as two of his seasons ended early due to injury. But, the important aspect here is that 2019 was a fully healthy season for Winfield — and it was a great one.
