The Bears have the majority of their picks in the mid-to-late rounds, and this guy is one who should fall somewhere in that mix. Charlie Heck really impressed me this past weekend.
First of all, he will have to add some muscle at the pro level. 21 reps on the bench, as an offensive lineman, is less than ideal. Now, I will give him somewhat of a pass because of his enormous frame. At 6-foot-8, you have a whole lot longer motion on the bench press than most do.
But, his frame could use a little bit more muscle, still.
The one thing that impressed me the most with Heck is his footwork. Watching him in on-field drills, he moved his feet much faster than anybody at 6-foot-8 should be able to. You could tell he understands he’s working with an oversized frame, so he tries to control what he can control. Footwork is certainly something he’s worked at.
Heck would come in and be a solid backup tackle who might be able to push Charles Leno a little bit after seeing his play drop off last year.
