Alton Robinson is a curious prospect, because he very well could end up playing as a 3-4 linebacker. He could also play defensive end. For the Bears, I see him more as a linebacker and potentially becoming a rotational guy who can disrupt at any moment.
Robinson stood out over the weekend because of his well-rounded performance. His 40 time was third amongst EDGE defenders and he put together solid numbers for all other drills as well. Robinson is definitely the athletic type and has the ability to become a force as a pass rusher. But, his technique will need a bit more developing.
In terms of traits, he has the bend you’re looking for at that position and he is quick on his feet, allowing him to sneak past tackles in an elusive manner.
Robinson’s final year at Syracuse wasn’t as strong as 2018, but over the last two seasons combined, he has 14.0 sacks and 26 tackles for loss. He sprinkled in four forced fumbles with two recoveries also.
Robinson does have a domestic issue on his record from a few years ago, and his character will be the one thing teams should look at more than anything else.
