1. DE Derek Wolfe

Let’s start with a 30-year old defensive end in Derek Wolfe who’s proven that he can have an impact when he’s on the field. While the Bears have Akiem Hicks at defensive end, they lack a consistent presence opposite him.

This is where Wolfe comes into the picture. He’s been highly productive throughout his time in the NFL with 33 sacks, 46 tackles for loss, and 77 quarterback hits. He’s also been relatively healthy over the last few years, missing just four games in 2019.

Besides his production, which has been excellent, another reason he makes sense for the Bears is the fact that he’d push guys like Bilal Nichols for the starting spot opposite Hicks.

Last year at this time, everyone expected Nichols to breakout in 2019 but then he broke his hand during the regular season. The Bears cannot rely on a bounceback year from Nichols which is why Wolfe makes so much sense.

It’s hard to predict what kind of contract Wolfe will get but he’d make sense for the Bears if he lasts until the second wave of free agency. A two-year deal and a chance to play on another Super Bowl-caliber defense could be enough to lure him to Chicago.
