Chicago Bears: Quarterback storylines are buzzing at NFL Combine
By Ryan Heckman
Jalen Hurts, Oklahoma
One of the most polarizing prospects in this year’s draft has to be Jalen Hurts.
He has the pedigree. He’s a proven winner. He’s a phenomenal leader and possesses excellent character.
But, the last time we saw him in game action, he was less than stellar as a passer. Hurts had the most to gain out of any quarterback during this weekend’s Combine — and he showed out.
The most important part of the weekend for Hurts was his on-field passing drills, in which he appeared much improved since the last time we saw him throw. Granted, this is not live action. But, Hurts did exactly what he was supposed to do. He delivered crisp, on-time balls overall and looked like he’s worked on his mechanics quite a bit over the last month and a half.
In terms of his speed and agility, Hurts gave us exactly what we wanted: A 40-yard dash time of 4.59 (second among quarterbacks), a vertical jump of 35 inches (second among quarterbacks), and tied for the lead among all quarterbacks with a 125-inch broad jump.
Hurts had a fantastic Combine.
He is a tantalizing prospect, but will he be able to continue to improve as a passer? That’s the big question mark with Hurts.
If you are Ryan Pace, where do you consider taking Hurts? You will see him mocked anywhere from the second round, all the way down to the fifth. It’s a tough situation to be in, if you’re the Bears, without a pick in the third round.
