Chicago Bears: Quarterback storylines are buzzing at NFL Combine
By Ryan Heckman
Cole McDonald, Hawaii
The first prospect who had a lot of folks buzzing is Cole McDonald out of Hawaii. Mostly known as someone who could go anywhere from the sixth round to undrafted, McDonald came in with a lot to prove. In a way, he proved to grab the attention of the NFL world.

McDonald finished with the fastest 40 time of any quarterback this year, running a 4.58, barely beating out Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts who ran a 4.59.
He also led quarterbacks in the vertical jump (36 inches).
McDonald finished second among quarterbacks in the three cone drill, posting a 7.13 second speed and came in with the third-best broad jump at 121 inches.
Overall, he certainly turned some heads when it came to his speed and agility drills. These results make him a very, very intriguing prospect. Although, when it came to throwing the football, he was a little sporadic.
McDonald missed a couple of throws pretty badly, which should give the Bears pause when considering his draft stock. The fact that he has a cannon, though, makes you wonder if he can work on his accuracy. If he can improve with the accuracy and ball placement, the rest of his skillset makes McDonald somebody worth keeping an eye on.
At this stage, I would be satisfied with the Bears taking a shot on him in the sixth or seventh round as a developmental project.
