1. Wide Receiver Van Jefferson, Florida

The Bears will need to add some depth at wide receiver this offseason, and many think they must add speed. While I agree they need speed, I also like the idea of adding a guy like Van Jefferson out of Florida.

Jefferson is an interesting prospect because his production doesn’t jump off the stat sheet. He spent his freshman and sophomore seasons with Ole Miss before transferring to the Gators. Over the last two seasons with Florida, Jefferson caught 84 passes for 1,160 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 200 pounds, Jefferson possesses average size for a wideout and his frame gives him the ability to play all three spots on the field. He’s been able to line up outside and in the slot.

Jefferson has decent speed, but he is more quick than he is fast. His footwork is excellent, allowing him to get in and out of his breaks in a hurry. He is definitely a crafty receiver. Jefferson is really, really good with separation and using his body to get in position for the catch. He’s also very sure-handed.

If the Bears think Jefferson is the best player available at a certain point, they’ll draft him. It’s for this reason they are doing their homework on a guy like him.
