Robin Lehner wanted to stay

It came out after he was gone to Vegas that Robin Lehner wanted to stay with the Chicago Blackhawks. He apparently offered to take a three-year contract for less money to stay with Chicago but he was never then presented with an offer like that. That is mind-boggling to hear for this team. He and Corey Crawford are on expiring contracts so there is a chance that they are left looking for a goalie after this season.

Extending Lehner for three seasons would have given Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane another three years with an elite goalie behind them. Instead, the Hawks opted to trade Lehner for a smaller package than a lot of people anticipated. It is a weird thing to come out after he was already gone, but fans of this team have every right to be outraged over that fact.

That furthers the point that Stan Bowman needs to go. If he knew that Lehner wanted to stay for cheap and on a shorter-term deal, he should have absolutely pulled the trigger.  Now, Lehner is going to go play for Vegas who is so sound defensively and earn a monster contract with someone for next year. That fact that he wanted to stay on a team-friendly deal in terms of cash and term was not something Hawks’ fans wanted to hear after he was gone.
