Chicago Bears: Tight Ends to watch at NFL Scouting Combine
By Usayd Koshul
3. Adam Trautman, Dayton
If the Bears want to go with a tight end who’s tall and will bully smaller defensive backs, Adam Trautman should be the unanimous selection. Besides just height, Trautman also possesses speed and is a great route runner who’s proved to be an asset in the play-action game as well.
For someone who attended a smaller school, Trautman has proved that he should be in the conversation for a top-three tight end in the 2020 NFL Draft. His versatility is noticeable as well, as he’ shown he can operate from the slot or at the line of scrimmage.
The biggest issue with Trautman is that he went to an FCS school and was highly productive against inferior competition. This isn’t meant to question his abilities as a football player but how will he fare against at the NFL level? The Bears need to consider this in their evaluation of him since they thought Adam Shaheen could be a productive tight end, despite playing against inferior competition.
Trautman could also be available in the second round and could be on the week’s biggest surprises if he can put together a strong combine. Overall, he’s a big target that’s hard to miss who wins in the middle of the field. At this point, his ceiling seems to be a second-round pick while his floor seems to be a third or fourth-round pick.
