2. Cole Kmet, Notre Dame

Another tight end that could really intrigue the Bears, Cole Kmet played both football and baseball while in college. Besides just being a two-sport athlete, Kmet brings a lot to the position that teams will love.

First, he’s a solid route runner who has shown that he can create some separation but not a lot. This is especially prevalent when he’s running routes across the middle of the field. He’s able to get open on underneath routes and turn what should be a short pass into a big gain.

He’s also got great hands and has shown the ability to haul in passes and then tuck the ball away with defenders draped around him. This toughness will help him at the next level where linebackers are bigger, faster, and stronger and can jar the ball lose with ease.

If there’s one area that Kmet can improve in, it’s his blocking. He’s got the size and frame to do so, it will just be a question of how quickly he picks it up at the next level. If he can improve his blocking, he’ll have a chance to be a three-down tight end and not just someone who’s in on passing plays.

Kmet is another guy that should be on the board when the Bears pick in the second round. He’s not expected to dominate the combine meaning he’s likely going to be selected in the back-half of round two.
