Chicago Bears Free Agency: 3 more candidates to be cut
By Ryan Heckman
3. Tight End Adam Shaheen
Remember when we were told the Bears drafted “Baby Gronk” back in 2017? What a start to the draft that was. In case you forgot, that was the year Chicago not only traded up to draft Mitchell Trubisky at no. 2 overall, but took a tight end from Division II Ashland in the second round.
Adam Shaheen has been the definition of a draft bust. He has only appeared in 27 out of 48 possible regular season games since joining the Bears. While injuries have been a tough part of his first three years in the league, Shaheen simply hasn’t looked like the second-round stud Pace thought he had at one point.
In three seasons, Shaheen has a measly 26 receptions on 33 targets for a total of 249 yards and four touchdowns. His best year was actually his first, when he caught three of his four career touchdowns.
If the Bears cut ties with Shaheen, they would only see about $600,000 in dead cap. This seems far too obvious of a move for Pace, but if his ego has anything to say about it, Shaheen just might return for a fourth season. Hopefully, Shaheen is one of two 2017 draft mistakes Pace tries to correct this offseason.
