Chicago Blackhawks: Trade scenarios and consequences for both goalies
The Consequences
So what would happen to the Chicago Blackhawks if they traded both goalies? Well, for one, they would have some added assets. They should be able to add some draft picks or prospects to the cupboard if they move these two players. That would certainly help the infrastructure of this team for the future while acknowledging this is a lost season once again.
There might be some fans who are upset at the notion of trading both goalies, especially Crawford. The fact remains, that if the other option is losing them both for no return then you absolutely have to move them. Anyone who is going to hit the free-agent market is someone who should be moved. That is just the way it is.
If they traded both of them, there would still be some NHL games that need to be played in March and April. The Rockford Ice Hogs are in the thick of a race to the playoffs. They are not currently in a playoff position but they aren’t far out. The Blackhawks would have to probably call Collin Delia and Kevin Lankinen up if they moved both of their AHL goalies.
Chances are, the Blackhawks would also fall out of the playoff race even more than they already are. Crawford and Lehner’s play this season is one of the few reasons they are where they are anyway. This is a very deep entry draft coming up in June so increasing their position wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing either. There are definitely a lot of things to consider when making a decision as big as this.
