3. Derek Carr, Oakland Raiders

We have spent a lot of time here talking about Derek Carr, especially because of the reports that the Oakland Raiders are set to offer Tom Brady a 2-year deal worth $60 million when free agency begins.

Hypothetically, if Brady ends up a Raider, then Oakland has to find a way to deal Carr. Not only that, but his trade value comes into question. Obviously, Brady would come in as the starter. So, the Raiders are now looking to deal their backup quarterback.

There is no way they get a first-rounder for Carr, right?

If Pace was smart, he’d throw the Bears’ no. 43 pick out there immediately. In fact, I’d already have called Jon Gruden and lined things up.

Carr would be a huge upgrade at quarterback. Mitchell Trubisky wouldn’t stand a chance if there was a so-called “competition” between the two of them, despite Pace’s adamancy about his former no. 2 overall pick being their guy for 2020.

People might forget that Carr had been in MVP discussions previously. Back in 2016, Carr had himself a career game when he tossed four touchdowns while throwing for 513 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That season, people were put on notice that Carr was for real.

Over the last two years, Carr has thrown for more than 4,000 yards and has come dangerously close in two other campaigns. He’s used to high-volume passing, which Nagy can sometimes fall in love with — even though he’s well-aware the Bears need to get back to a healthy run game.

If Chicago could get Carr for the no. 43 pick in this year’s draft, they have to do it; no question about it. He propels the Bears into championship contention immediately.
