Chicago Bears News: 4 free agent running backs who fit
By Ryan Heckman
4. Carlos Hyde
Speaking of the Texans, Carlos Hyde could very well be someone they decide to bring back. After coming to Houston as a fill-in, and seeing his fourth team in roughly a year, Hyde had an impressive season in 2019.
While most of the offense was led by Deshaun Watson and the weapons in the passing game, Hyde gave the Texans a steady rushing presence all season long. In fact, Hyde was so consistent that he had his best season as a pro, believe it or not.
Hyde finished the 2019 season with 1,070 yards on the ground and six scores. Yet, because the running back position is so replaceable, I wouldn’t be surprised if Houston opted to draft someone to come in and have a longer stay with the team.
Still, the same could be said about the Bears. With Hyde healthy and coming off his best season yet, Chicago would be wise to at least check in on the asking price for his services.
Chicago may want someone with more experience catching the football; Hyde only has one season with over 27 receptions in his career (which happened to be a big outlier — 59 catches in 2017).
Whatever the Bears decide to do at the running back position, I truly believe they need a more capable complimentary back next to Montgomery. As a fan, who would you like to see come in and take that role?
