Chicago Bears Rumors: Analyzing 3 big name trade targets
By Ryan Heckman
Quarterback Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions
Recently, there were reports to come out regarding the Detroit Lions engaging in trade talks centered around quarterback Matthew Stafford. We have already talked about what that would look like, and what the Bears would have to give up.

But, should Chicago actually make the effort to engage in those talks?
Stafford is 32 years old and coming off a season that saw him endure a back injury — that’s not a particularly easy injury to come back from. In fact, it’s more susceptible to re-injury than a lot of other areas.
The idea of gambling on a veteran quarterback coming back from injury is a scary one, and we’re not talking an Alex Smith scenario. This wouldn’t be a late-round conditional pick. The Bears would have to give up something significant.
However, with the way this roster is set up, Stafford could very well put the Bears over the hump. I firmly believe that, having a quarterback like Stafford, would make this team a Super Bowl contender.
Stafford has thrown for 4,000 yards in seven straight seasons during his career. He’s thrown for over 40 touchdowns in a season at one point. This guy is used to slinging the football, which is something the Bears offense is starving for.
Beyond any offensive line issues fans will use as an excuse for Mitchell Trubisky (which Stafford has plenty of experience dealing with), this team is missing a quarterback who can take the passing game up a notch. That’s Stafford.
