Chicago Blackhawks: Three trade packages with the Edmonton Oilers
Trade 3
This would be the second time that Adam Larsson was traded “one for one”. In 2016, the New Jersey Devils traded Larsson to Edmonton for Taylor Hall. Hall went to New Jersey and was their best player for three seasons, including a Hart Trophy as league MVP. It was a disaster of a hockey trade for Edmonton as Hall bloomed into an elite player while Larsson just continued to be a solid defensive defenseman.
That doesn’t mean that Adam Larsson is a bad player because he isn’t. He just isn’t a guy that moves the needle. He is a guy who relies on positional defense to try and keep the opposition from scoring. That is what the Blackhawks need right now. They can score goals but they would love to add a guy like Larsson who can confidently help out the goalies. The defensive structure of the Hawks would all of a sudden look a little bit better if Larsson was added.
Brandon Saad and Adam Larsson are both on the wrong end of disaster trades. Of course, Larsson for Hall was super bad but Saad for Panarin was equally as bad. Both of them were acquired for MVP caliber players. Saad is a very good winger who would start scoring even more if he was put on a line with Connor McDavid or Leon Draisaitl. Each team would be addressing a need with this trade.
Obviously, these are all hypotheticals but they would make sense for both teams. When these two teams meet they will absolutely play an entertaining game. Neither team is perfect and has a lot of work to do if they want to be playoff teams at the end of this 2019-20 season. Each of them has something that the other could use in the present or future.
