Trade 2

The Chicago Blackhawks already know that trading Henri Jokiharju for Alexander Nylander was a disaster of a trade. Jokiharju is a great young defenseman and Nylander is not living up to that level of play on the wing. He has had all sorts of opportunities this season but he only has six goals and 11 assists for 17 points in 50 games. That is not what the Hawks thought he would end up with when they acquired him from Buffalo.

The last chance for Nylander should be an opportunity to play with Connor McDavid. If McDavid can’t get a guy going than nobody can. That is why it would be worth it for the Hawks to give him to the Edmonton Oilers for Riley Sheahan and a second-round pick. Sheahan is on an expiring contract so he would also just be some cap relief after this season. Sheahan also has six goals so it wouldn’t be that much of a drop-off.

The second-round pick would go to Chicago just because there is an off chance that Nylander finds his game playing with Edmonton. He also has another year remaining on his entry-level deal after this year. That is why this trade would be good for both teams. The Oilers would be getting another winger to join the club and the Hawks would have a potential bottom-six winger along with replenishing that second-round pick that they don’t have anymore.
