Phillip Dorsett

It feels like Phillip Dorsett has been in the league for a while now, but the former Miami Hurricane is just five years removed from the Indianapolis Colts selecting him in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Five years in, though, and Dorsett has yet to eclipse 33 receptions in a single season. In fact, he has 124 career receptions for 1,634 yards and 11 touchdowns. That sounds like a decent single campaign for someone like Michael Thomas or Julio Jones.

Dorsett has yet to pay off as a first-round pick and enters the free agent pool unrestricted. Once brought to the New England Patriots via trade, New England may opt to let him loose and find other options, as they look to revamp their receiving core.

For the Bears, Dorsett would certainly offer them some speed, which is one of the main things they need to add at the wide receiver position, especially if they part with Gabriel. He would give the Bears a similar skillset as Gabriel, but hopefully at a cheaper price.

Dorsett is still only 27 years old and could potentially fill that no. 3 role for a few years, should the Bears extend him a multi-year contract. Plus, coming from a winning franchise like the New England Patriots, I’m sure Dorsett has a few things he’s learned from Bill Belichick that he’d be able to help instill in some of the younger guys in the Bears’ locker room.
