Chicago Bears Free Agency: 5 bargain wide receivers
By Ryan Heckman
Randall Cobb
When most people would have assumed Randall Cobb went to the Dallas Cowboys to die, his career suddenly resurrected. In a fantastic year from Dak Prescott, Cobb played a nice role as their no. 3 receiver in 2019.
Cobb ended up with 55 receptions for 828 yards and three scores last season. His yards per reception number reached 15.1, marking the highest average of his career. That’s pretty impressive, considering he played eight seasons with Aaron Rodgers while in Green Bay.
By the time this next season starts, Cobb will be 30 years old, though. I’m not so sure there is an enormous market for a 30-year-old slot receiver; at least, not an expensive market.
There would be something to be said about Cobb’s experience in Green Bay, though. The Packers are under a new head coach in Matt LaFleur, so Cobb wouldn’t have much insight from that perspective. But, knowing quite a bit about Rodgers’ tendencies wouldn’t hurt his case to offer some advice to the Bears defense.
If the Bears could get Cobb on the cheap, I’m sure he would be excited about facing his former team twice this coming year, if not beyond 2020.
