Chicago Bears Free Agency: 5 players team must re-sign
By Ryan Heckman
Defensive Lineman Nick Williams
As I alluded to earlier when talking about Robertson-Harris, it was Nick Williams who really flashed in the absence of Hicks and Nichols. Williams had himself a career year last season, and deserves to be re-signed more than almost any other current Bears free agent.
Since his career began back in 2014, Williams had a total of 25 career tackles. Last year as a Bear, he finished with a ridiculous 42 — as a backup. He only started five games last year, yet it felt like he was one of the most valuable players on defense.
He also totaled 6.0 sacks in 2019, after never even registering one prior to last season. It may have taken a few years for Williams to break out, but thankfully, it was the Bears who were able to benefit from his coming out party.
If Pace can manage to lock up both Robertson-Harris and Williams, the Bears’ defensive line looks mighty fine heading into the 2020 season. They will have to look for depth at many other positions, but this spot is one which will be firm and ready to roll.
