Chicago Bears Free Agency: 4 bargain cornerbacks to consider
By Ryan Heckman
3. James Bradberry
I hesitated to put James Bradberry on this list, because he is probably the best cornerback out of all of these guys. I would consider him a bargain, only in comparison to Amukamara’s salary. If Amukamara’s average annual salary is $9 million, and the Bears could get Bradberry for the same price, sign me up.
Now, I know that makes things a little difficult in terms of the cap. But, the Bears’ cornerback situation would be in much better shape going forward with Bradberry and Kyle Fuller starting opposite one another.
Take this for what it’s worth, because plenty of people have their gripes with Pro Football Focus, but Bradberry’s rookie year saw him end as the highest-graded cornerback out of his class. That class also included Jalen Ramsey.
Since entering the NFL, Bradberry has consistently allowed one of the lower quarterback ratings when targeted. His ability to lock down receivers is definitely better than most, and if you go look through some game logs, he’s typically allowing quarterback ratings between 40-60. I’d take that in a heartbeat.
Again, Bradberry’s salary may not be considered a “bargain” compared to other options, but if we’re looking at the grand scheme, I’d much rather have him than Amukamara, when looking at their earnings.
