Wide Receiver A.J. Green

When looking at the career of A.J. Green, one has to step back and marvel a bit. It’s not too often that you find a true number one wideout who steps right into the league and starts his career with seven-straight Pro Bowls.

Last year was the first year Green failed to make the Pro Bowl in his 8-year career — astounding.

Now, would a healthy Green look incredible in the Bears’ offense? Absolutely. I think he’d elevate this offense in a big way.

But, health has been a major issue. That’s the asterisk surrounding his free agency. Green played in just nine games last year, due to a lingering ankle injury.

The former Georgia Bulldog will be 32 years old when this coming season starts.

His age and injury concerns, combined with the fact that the Cincinnati Bengals very well could want to extend him and pair him with rookie Joe Burrow, make it tough for me to see the Bears in the picture.

Green could go somewhere like the New England Patriots, sure. That wouldn’t surprise anybody. But, if the Bengals see potential with Burrow, Joe Mixon, Tyler Boyd and Green, I wouldn’t be shocked if they offered him a competitive deal to stay.

Regardless of whether he stays in Cincinnati or not, Green’s name alone will be enough to warrant top dollar. There will be teams willing to pay up, even though he brings durability issues and is no longer the youngster he once was.

The Bears have bigger needs, and if they want to add a receiver, I’d suggest they add speed over anything else. Look for them to do so in the draft, not with Green.
