Chicago Bears Mock Draft: Mitchell Trubisky can breathe, for now
By Ryan Heckman
One of the positions which will get talked a lot more about in a few weeks is at safety. The Bears could end up with a few of their own heading for other teams, sooner or later.
At the moment, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Deon Bush and DeAndre Houston-Carson are all headed for free agency. Along with those three, Sherrick McManis (who is technically listed as a safety) will also see his contract expire.
There is no doubt the Bears need to draft safety, as well as sign one or two via free agency (potentially even bringing back one of their own).
Jalen Elliott is an interesting prospect, and wouldn’t have to travel far from Notre Dame if drafted by the Bears. The 6-foot-1 safety would fill in at strong safety and could end up being a nice starter down the road, depending on whether or not he has stiff competition as a rookie.
His final season with the Irish saw him finish with 49 tackles, two passes defenses and two picks. 2018 was actually a much better year for Elliott, when he totaled 67 tackles, seven passes defensed, four interceptions, a forced fumble and a sack.
Elliott is a strong-armed safety who loves himself some contact. He isn’t shy when it comes to finishing a play, which might remind folks of another Bears safety coming out of college.
