Chicago Bears Mock Draft: Mitchell Trubisky can breathe, for now
By Ryan Heckman
Two years ago, the Bears’ draft was all about finding help at the edge — or so we thought. Before the Khalil Mack trade, the Bears had to add help at that position, but they failed to add some serious talent. Thankfully, just in time, Pace pulled off the blockbuster for Mack.

This offseason, the Bears very well could end up adding talent here as well.
Let me rephrase that: This offseason, the Bears have to add talent on the edge. It’s a must. One major reason why is due to the fact that they might cut ties with veteran Leonard Floyd. This season, Floyd is owed just over $13 million, yet hasn’t lived up to his first-round draft status.
Regardless of whether or not they cut Floyd, a guy like D.J. Wonnum in the fifth round would help the rotation. The former South Carolina standout could be a developmental option off the edge and, with a little improvement, might pan out as a key reserve.
Wonnum is purely an effort player. He’s not the strongest guy, but he competes on every snap. That’s the most likable trait about him, other than his 6-foot-5 frame. Last year, he finished with 4.5 sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss overall. His best season came back in 2017 when he totaled 6.0 sacks and 13.0 tackles for loss.
