In our latest mock draft for the Chicago Bears, they fill some huge needs, including a quarterback.

Huge needs? A quarterback? You better believe it. The Chicago Bears have a need at quarterback, whether some fans want to admit it or not.

The fact that a large portion of the Bears fan base thinks it’s perfectly fine to make excuses for Mitchell Trubisky shouldn’t surprise me — nor should it surprise the folks who know how to watch tape.

Bears fans have made excuses for their quarterbacks for years now. It seems to be what they’re best at. You don’t have to look much further than a recent polarizing Bears quarterback, Jay Cutler, whom I happened to love.

Excuses were (and still are) abundant. Whether it was different offensive coordinators, offensive line issues, the receiving core — it didn’t matter. Bears fans were going to make excuses for the guys, and they continue to do it to this day with Trubisky.

Before I go any further, I will say this: On this Bears team, Cutler would be more than good enough to win a Super Bowl with. Trubisky is far less capable.

Regardless of what we think, though, general manager Ryan Pace has given his commitment to Trubisky for the 2020 season — for now.

We will see how that commitment holds up after the free agency period and draft weekend is over with. My guess is that they add at least one quarterback to the depth chart. If they do so via the draft, there are several options which could be had at any point. Would Pace use one of his second-rounders on a quarterback? Would it be smart?

In our latest mock draft, I’ll let you be the judge.
