95. . G. New York Rangers. Alexandar Georgiev. 3. player

The New York Rangers currently have three goaltenders that need to get starts in the National Hockey League. They have Henrik Lundqvist who is one of the game’s all-time great players. He has been the backbone of that team for many years. Now, as he ages, they are trying to ease some new faces into that role. They also have Igor Sheshterkin who is the future of the Rangers net. They have been waiting for his arrival for a few seasons now and he is finally there.

That is why Alexandar Georgiev‘s name has been floating around trade rumors lately. He is in the last year of his entry-level deal and the Rangers are looking to get something for him. He should be out of their door sooner than later and a team looking for some goaltending heading into the playoffs might be willing to trade for him.

So if the Blackhawks have Corey Crawford and Robin Lehner, why would they want to trade for Georgiev? The answer is simple. Lehner and Crawford are both unrestricted free agents on July 1st. The Blackhawks could still trade one of them away and get something for them while setting themselves up for the future if they acquired Georgiev. He is in the last year of his entry-level deal but whoever acquires him will have his rights.

The Blackhawks would be able to sign him to a contract extension and then have their goalie of the future. It is a bit of a risk, but Georgiev has certainly been a good player this season. A team that is desperate for goaltending at all might be the team that lands him but the Hawks could think about it in a present and future point of view.
