Chicago Bulls Trade Deadline: 3 intriguing players on the block
By Ryan Heckman
1. Clint Capela, Houston Rockets
Some of the latest talk around the league has the Houston Rockets shopping center Clint Capela. The big man is just 25 years old and has become just the type of player you want at the center position, especially when it comes time for playoff basketball.
The former 2014 first-round pick is posting an impressive 13.9 points, 13.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks this season.
Before Capela signed his 5-year, $90 million contract a couple of years ago, he was most definitely someone I wanted to see the Bulls pursue. As a restricted free agent, though, the Rockets had a lot of power in his free agency.
It might be tough for Chicago to land Capela, but if they were to put a package together, I would assume it would have to include Wendell Carter Jr. If Capela became a Bull, he would be the starter, no question. That means Carter would have to slide to the bench, which isn’t in the cards at this stage of Carter’s career.
At the moment, it appears the Boston Celtics could be a front-runner for Capela’s services. Like any notable name in trade discussions, why wouldn’t the Bulls at least try for Capela? He could make a difference down the stretch, should the Bulls keep close to a playoff spot.
