Chicago Blackhawks: Awesome game to follow up bye week
The Chicago Blackhawks had some time off for the All-Star Game and the bye week. They came back against a good team and took care of business.
The Chicago Blackhawks came out of the break knowing that they needed to come out firing. They won five of their last six games going into the break. It led to them getting back into the playoff race. After the way that the season began, it seemed like a long shot to get in. Now, it was up to them to get off to a good start in their second-half journey to the playoffs.
The Hawks had a two-goal lead in their first game back against the Arizona Coyotes in the desert. Arizona came back and made in interesting by tying the game late in the second period. No scoring in the third period sent the game to overtime. It was an interesting overtime period that saw each team create plenty of chances to win the game.
It ended up going to the shootout where the Blackhawks’ stars put the team on their back. Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane each made magnificent moves in the shootout while Corey Crawford shut down both Coyote shooters to give them the win. The Hawks’ big win earned them their sixth win in seven games and they are now three points back of Arizona for the final spot in the Wild Card race of the Western Conference.
It was the Blackhawks’ biggest game of the season to date. Now, every game going forward will pretty much be of the same significance. They need to win a majority of their games in order to make it to the playoffs. They have what it takes in order to do it, but they just need to go out there and do it. They have been playing well against the teams that they should beat and the teams they are in competition with for those final playoff spots.
The Blackhawks have one more road game before they are finally back at the United Center. They play the Minnesota Wild tomorrow night in what promises to be a great game against a team that is also battling for their life. This is the way it is going to be down the stretch which makes it fun for fans. It is better to be in this position than have no chance at all. This is a good time to be a hockey fan with the races this tight.
