The Chicago Bears had a miserable season. Super Bowl LIV is a matchup that should infuriate fans of this team because of what has happened.

The Chicago Bears had a miserable 2019 season. They ended up being 8-8 and it felt like they didn’t even deserve that good of a record for the most part. The defense was awesome but the offense couldn’t give them the support that they needed to win football games. The season started off promising because they had such high expectations but it all came crashing down quickly.

Now, the season as a whole is about to come to an end with Super Bowl LIV. The Kansas City Chiefs are meeting the San Francisco 49ers in the big game in what promises to be an intriguing matchup. The stout defense and running game of San Francisco is going up against the elite offense of Kansas City. Both of these teams have capitalized on mistakes made by the Chicago Bears and are now in the Super Bowl.

The Kansas City Chiefs took Patrick Mahomes in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. This came after the Chicago Bears passed on him in favor of Mitchell Trubisky. Now, Mahomes is considered the best quarterback in the NFL while there is a question of whether or not Trubisky will even be the Bears starting quarterback next season. It was a clear mistake on the Bears (and every other team that passed on him) to not take Mahomes.

The 49ers and Bears are also connected with the 2017 Draft. They made a trade that allowed the Bears to move from pick three to pick two and select Trubisky. The 49ers then took Solomon Thomas with the third overall pick. Thomas isn’t a star by any means but he is a part of the good San Francisco defense. It was a disaster of a trade for the Bears because they traded up one spot to select the third-best quarterback in the draft.

The 49ers also have an old friend making their kicks at a high level for them. Robbie Gould is a Bears all-time great kicker yet he is currently on their team. The Bears have had well-noted troubles at the position but Gould is still in the Bay area. Now, he is getting ready to kick in his second Super Bowl, hoping to actually win this time. It is another huge mistake by the Bears to let him go but it is what it is.

Bears fans have plenty of reason to be upset with the way it has gone and the mistakes are now going to be right in front of them on Super Bowl Sunday. The thing to remember now is that it is over. What is done is done so it is time for the Bears organization to worry more about what they can do to fix it instead of worrying about what could have been. They still have a really good defense so if they can figure out a way to score more points then 2020 should be a better year.

The Bears could have been in this spot if they made some of the smart decisions that the Chiefs and 49ers made instead, but for now, fans should just enjoy what should be an incredibly compelling Super Bowl. This is the last meaningful football game for quite some time so enjoy it.
