Chicago Bears Free Agency: Assessing 3 inside linebacker options
By Ryan Heckman
Kevin Pierre-Louis
Once a fourth-round pick back in 2014 by the Seattle Seahawks, Kevin Pierre-Louis has bounced around over the years. The Bears were his fourth team in as many years after leaving Seattle in 2016 and signing with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Last season, Bears fans got a glimpse of how effective he can be if given the shot to start. Pierre-Louis only started three games for Chicago in 2019, but made an impression.
What most fans will remember about him last season is a guy coming in and starting the last three games of the season, in a mostly-hopeless situation for the team, and playing his heart out. It seemed after every defensive snap, Pierre-Louis was either in on the tackle or close by the football.
Sometimes, when you watch a player who has yet to find a permanent home, you’ll notice a difference in effort. Pierre-Louis gave it 100 percent on every snap, and it was obvious.
He is a sound tackler who can drop into coverage if need be. He’s a little undersized at just six feet tall, but plays bigger and faster than that.
If Pace wants to go the cheapest route, while staying relatively safe, he could definitely re-sign Pierre-Louis to be the starter for 2020 while potentially drafting or signing a backup.
