Chicago Blackhawks: 3 players to acquire from Montreal Canadiens
The Chicago Blackhawks adding Nate Thompson would be a smart move in terms of depth. He wouldn’t be a guy that cracks the Chicago lineup every night but in case of an injury, it is good to have NHL talent there and ready to go. He currently plays on Montreal’s fourth line so you know that he is a guy they rely on when their top players are on the bench.
He is not a guy who is going to provide a lot of offense as he has two goals and eight assists for ten points in 51 games. What he would be brought in to eat up minutes and provide depth. You already say the Blackhawks acquire Ryan Carpenter over the summer which is a similar type of move as adding Nate Thompson.
The Blackhawks need everything they can get if they are going to be a team that sneaks into one of those Wild Card positions. You already know what the top players are capable of doing for them but they are not out there for the whole game. There are always going to be injuries so you could never have too many bodies ready to go. Thompson could be that type of guy if the Blackhawks are looking to add this type of player. He is an unrestricted free agent this summer so it might cost the Blackhawks very little to trade for a guy like this.
Whether they are looking for a skilled forward like Kovalchuk, a solid depth defenseman like Scandella, or an extra forward like Nate Thompson, they are hoping that they win enough in between now and the trade deadline to be asking themselves these questions. It has been a good stretch so hopefully, they can win some more games after the break.
