The Chicago Blackhawks could really use a little bit of depth on the blue line. Their defense hasn’t been that good in recent years so adding a guy like Marco Scandella would really help. They are without Brent Seabrook and Calvin de Haan for the rest of the season so there is definitely a void at the position. Scandella has had an up and down season but coming to Chicago might be good for a player like that.

Scandella has done some bouncing around over the last few seasons. He started his NHL career with the Minnesota Wild where he would play for seven seasons. He was a pretty effective defenseman there. He was a part of all of those series the Wild and the Blackhawks had in the playoffs. He is familiar with the building and a lot of the players as he used to play against them regularly.

He hasn’t been quite the same player over the past few seasons. He was with the Buffalo Sabres earlier this season but the Montreal Canadiens acquired him hoping to get their season back on track. It hasn’t worked so with him being an unrestricted free agent after this season, he could be on the move again. If he is traded again it would be his third team this season. He might be able to latch onto a spot here in Chicago if put in a proper position to succeed.
