player. 152. . LW. Montreal Canadiens. Ilya Kovalchuk. 1

The Canadiens added Ilya Kovalchuk just a few weeks ago after things weren’t working out for him in Los Angeles. He wasn’t getting good minutes or opportunity with Los Angeles so they decided to release him. Montreal signed him hoping that he could maybe help them get back in the race. Since going to the Habs, Kovalchuk has been really good. The only issue is it hasn’t translated to enough winning to get the Canadiens back in it.

Now that he has shown that he can still provide some offense at the NHL level, he could be a major boost to the Chicago Blackhawks. They could really use his shot on the power play along with another solid left-wing that can contribute at five on five. He signed for a very cheap deal with Montreal so money really isn’t an issue with him. He would fit right into this group as he looks to end his pretty impressive career on a high note.

There is no telling where Kovalchuk will end up next season but he can still help out a playoff team right now. There was a point in time where he was one of the very best players in the world. He is no longer that guy but he is still a decent player. He has eight goals and ten assists for 18 points in 27 games this season which isn’t terrible for a guy who couldn’t stick to the lineup in Los Angeles. It wouldn’t cost the Hawks all that much if they wanted to add Kovalchuk from the Canadiens if they felt they were in it.
